“Ponte Rainha Santa Isabel” (Queen Saint Isabel Bridge) was inaugurated in 2004.
Its construction allowed quicker access to the south of the city, namely to the Pole II of the University of Coimbra, from the IC2 and from the left bank of the Mondego (Santa Clara).
It is an asymmetrical riser bridge designed by engineer António Reis. It has a total span of 329.4 m, with a main span of 186.5 m. It consists of two carriageways with three lanes in each direction, on a 30 m wide board.
During the design phase, it had the provisional name “Ponte Europa”, a name by which it is still sometimes referred to.
