The Weir Bridge is located on the Mondego riverbed, in the city of Coimbra. Designed in 1978, it started operating in 1981. The construction of the weir created a permanent water mirror in front of the city of Coimbra.
The Weir Bridge was built as a result of the construction of the weir, thus creating an urban road crossing at the northern end of the city.
